Welcome to Scarsdale Middle School's 7th grade Human Rights Portfolio!
Over the next several weeks you will be working on a human rights research project. After a brief introduction to human rights, you will choose a topic from the list below. Then, you will become an investigator unraveling information and testimony on your chosen topic. You will gather information that will help you have a better understanding of how human rights are being violated, who is trying to help, and what you can do to make a difference in the world. “Never doubt that a small group of concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
YOUR TASK: Create a portfolio highlighting a specific human rights violation.
You will be responsible for putting together a portfolio on the topic that you choose. Please refer to the Portfolio Components Sheet which specifies the requirements for each section of your portfolio.
GRADE: Your portfolio will count as a Test/Project grade for 4th quarter. You will also receive various class work and homework grades throughout the project.
If your portfolio is not handed in on time, you will lose 5-10 points for every day it is late.

• Terrorism and the Protection of Human Rights
• Healthcare in America
• Health: Fighting HIV/AIDS, Malaria
